Isometric UI Art for Lovecraftian 'Tides of Madness' Mobile Game

While working on the UI for the game Tide of Madness, I was asked to prepare objects in an isometric view. Cards from the game were used as a model (The mobile game was made based on the board game). It was a very interesting challenge. I used not only my skills as a painter or illustrator, but also reached for unusual for me graphic software such as Blender.

In conclusion it is nice to be able to create all the graphics needed for a mobile game by myself . Create UX, take care of UI art, Draw illustrations, Prepare all assets and animations.

Based on board game cards created by various talented illustrators and artists, I drew the objects for the game. Specifically, I created isometric buildings and monsters that fit seamlessly into the game's world.

Drawing objects in an isometric view was not an easy challenge. Often, the monsters or buildings depicted on the cards were only small parts of the entire world created by the painters and Lovecraft.

Sometimes, I had to change the colors of the surroundings to make them more closely match the ambient light. Here, the beast/dragon has its colors completely changed.

Drawing monsters and gods from Lovecraft's world is a pleasure. It is enjoyable to imagine the strangest creatures that could possibly exist in his world. From the eldritch abominations to the Great Old Ones, Lovecraft's universe is full of horrifying ...

Drawing buildings in isometric projection proved to be a challenge. I wondered whether to create architectural objects from scratch in programs such as Clip Studio Paint Pro or Photoshop, or maybe sketch them in Affinity Designer or Illustrator first...

...In the end, I decided to create the basic shape in Blender and add details in my favorite program, Clip Studio Paint Pro, and make any necessary corrections using Photoshop or Lightroom.
